Tuxedo is a classic American cocktail made with a combination of Old Tom gin, dry vermouth, maraschino liqueur, absinthe, and a few dashes of orange bitters. In order to prepare it, all ingredients are stirred with ice, then strained into a cocktail glass.
The cocktail is garnished with a lemon zest twist and a cocktail cherry. The first written mention of Tuxedo can be found in Tim Daly’s
Daly’s Bartenders’ Encyclopedia from 1903, when it was made with maple gin, but in 1910, Jacob Grohusko revised the recipe and opted for Old Tom gin, with the addition of bitters and absinthe.
