Shandy

Shandy is a popular cocktail with a low content of alcohol, made with a combination of beer and soft drinks. Proportions of the ingredients are usually half-and-half, although they can vary depending on personal preferences. It is believed that Shandy originated in America, but nowadays it is more popular in western Europe, and almost every country has a name for the drink.

In Germany, where beer-mixed beverages are especially trendy, a cocktail made with beer and sparkling lemonade is called Radler (or Alster, Russ). If a beverage contains cola, it is often referred to as Diesel in some parts of Europe.

An older British name for lager beer mixed with ginger-ale is Shandygaff, while in Singapore, where it also contains tonic water, they call it Kip Lin. There is also a Shandy variety made with beer and either sparkling wine or Champagne, known as Bismarck.
