Turf Club is a vintage cocktail that combines gin and dry vermouth. It also includes maraschino liqueur, absinthe, and orange bitters. To prepare the drink, all ingredients are added into a mixing glass filled with ice. The combination is stirred until chilled, and it is then strained into a chilled glass.
It is usually served in a coupe, garnished with a lemon twist. Turf Club originated sometime in the 1870s or 1880s, and it has had several interpretations since then. The first written recipe listed Old Tom gin, sweet vermouth, and bitters. The version from 1900, found in Harry Johnson's Illustrated Bartenders' Manual, resembles the better-known contemporary version of Turf Club.
