The Last Word

The Last Word is a pre-Prohibition classic made with equal parts gin, green Chartreuse, maraschino liqueur, and lime juice. To prepare it, all ingredients are shaken with ice, then strained into a cocktail glass. The cocktail is characterized by its typical pale green color, which is a result of adding Chartreuse to the combination.

It can be garnished with lime wedges and fresh cherries, if desired. It is believed that the first version of this cocktail was prepared at the Detroit Athletic Club’s bar in the early 1920s.
