Miele Della Lunigiana | Local Honey From Province of Massa and Carrara, Italy | TasteAtlas

Miele della Lunigiana

This top-quality honey is traditionally produced in Lunigiana, a mountainous region stretched from the Apennines to the Mediterranean and divided by the Magra River. Lunigiana honey of is available in two varieties: Castagno (chestnut) and Acacia.

While the sugary chestnut honey features a strong, penetrating scent and a lasting bitter aftertaste, acacia honey has a light, fruity aroma with pronounced notes of vanilla, and a delicate, sweet flavor which is neither too strong nor sugary and leaves no aftertaste.

Both varieties are typically enjoyed as bread spreads and coffee sweeteners or used as an ingredient for the preparation of traditional Tuscan biscuits and cakes such as Panforte, Cantucci and Spongata.
