Seinų | Local Honey From Lazdijai District Municipality, Lithuania | TasteAtlas

Seinų

Seinų, also known as Lazdijų krašto medus, Miód z Sejneńszczyny, or Łoździejszczyzny, is honey extracted from a polyfloral nectar in the Lazdijai District municipality in Lithuania. The same type of honey is also made in Poland, in Sejny and Suwalki county, using the same methods.

It has a unique colour that varies from dark yellow to dark golden, and it is always slightly cloudy. The polyfloral nectar includes plants such as willow, maple, dandelion, raspberry, buckthorn, clover, trefoil, melilot, lime, cornflower, lily, acacia and plums.

Seinų honey has a strong aroma, a slightly bitter aftertaste, low water content and high proline content, making it a premium quality product often used in herbal teas, eaten on its own or as a part of sweet marinades.
