Bloodhound is a cocktail made with a combination of gin, dry vermouth, sweet vermouth, and crushed strawberries. In order to prepare it, all alcoholic ingredients should be shaken, then served over crushed ice with crushed strawberries.
The cocktail is typically garnished with strawberries, and is regarded as an acquired taste by many. In Harry McElhone’s 1922 Mixing Cocktails, he credits the Duke of Manchester as the creator of this drink, but William Boothby has already listed a Bloodhound cocktail in his 1907 World Drinks, while Tom Bullock listed it in his 1917 The Ideal Bartender, so the origins of this cocktail are still a bit murky.
