Marguerite

Marguerite is a vintage cocktail that is often dubbed as a predecessor to Dry Martini. It combines equal parts dry vermouth and gin with a dash of orange bitters. The original version from 1900 included anisette, but with time, this herbal liqueur was left out from most recipes, while orange Curaçao was sometimes added.

To make the cocktail, the ingredients are mixed with ice and are then strained into a cocktail glass. Marguerite is garnished with orange or lemon twist. The first written mention of Marguerite dates to the 1900 edition of Harry Johnson's New and Improved Bartender's Manual.
