Rob Roy is a cocktail made with a combination of scotch, sweet vermouth, and a dash of Angostura bitters. To prepare it, all ingredients are stirred with ice, strained into a chilled glass, then garnished with a lemon twist or skewered Maraschino cherries.
The drink can be served straight up or on the rocks, depending on personal preferences. It was invented at the
Waldorf-Astoria in New York City in the 1890s. The cocktail is named Rob Roy in honor of the eponymous Broadway show which told the story of Robert Roy MacGregor, a Scottish folk hero.
