Lemon verbena liqueur is an intensely aromatic Italian liqueur prepared with the leaves of lemon verbena (Aloysia citrodora). The leaves are macerated in neutral alcohol, sometimes with the addition of lemon zest, and the macerate is usually mixed with sugar or sugar syrup and water.
The liqueur typically has a yellow-green color and herbaceous aromas. It is traditionally enjoyed well-chilled, preferably as a digestif, but it also makes an excellent addition to ice creams, sorbets, or desserts. This type of liqueur is commonly home-made, but several commercial varieties are also available.
