Recommendations

"This walk-in closet somehow manages to distribute wine, craft beer and cicheti to the overflowing crowd of young Venetians in approximate order of arrival. Wine is cheap and plentiful, and the bar groans with classic nibbles."
"Filled mostly with students, it’s crowded all the time for good reason: great food and low prices. Monica and I worked our way to the front of the crowd and came away with a plastic plate full of delicate meatballs, deep fried white bate and the most incredible sweet and sour pumpkin."
"The best dish here, though, is Sarde in Saor (fried sardines in onion sauce), prepared following the original recipe and should be savored with a nice glass of Prosecco. Al Portego offers the original recipe of this dish that tastes just amazing."
"Cozy Venetian Wine bar with a counter full of traditional Venetian cicchetti. Sample a range of regional wines and have a light snack as an aperitif before dinner or a little indulgence afterwards. Cheers!"
"Cicchetti are nice and really fresh, wine is good and staff is very courteous."
"Osteria Al Portego and the Sarde in Saor- Is it because of the sweet raisins of Corinth? Or is it about the pine seeds mixed with wine vinegar? Sarde in saor, with their sweet-sour taste, invite you to travel in time and space throughout Venezia’s history. So if you’re in the mood for street food, get lost around Ponte delle Paste until you find Calle Malvasia and its «portego», basically an archway in Venetian style."
"The retro wooden sign "Osteria", the ancient red bricks that frame the entrance door and the rich showcase of cicchetti, make this place genuine and irresistible."
"Osteria al Portego is my absolute favorite. Enjoy a pile of cicchetti (small bar snacks and side dishes) leaning against one of the barrels in the adjacent yard."
"Cicchetti are usually simple and truly excellent."
"Best wine bars in Venice: Osteria Al Portego - The choice of Cicchetti is really a greedy game because they are all displayed in a glass showcase: it features classic bread croutons with creamed cod, octopus, sardines in sauce but also artichokes, fried food and polenta."
