Flatbread, Malaysia

Roti telur

Recommended by Chopin and My Saucepan and 5 other food critics.
"Roti telur is similar to roti canai except it contains beaten egg and is more omelette-like. The flaky texture of the roti is almost like a mop when it hits the curry sauce, soaking up all its spicy goodness."

Recommendations

"The kari ayam is a rich, mouth filling mild curry of chicken pieces (thigh and drumstick, predominantly) with chunks of potato."
"Spicy bold flavours (so cool because some places water it down for Aussie palates). To me it seemed like a rendang syle and there were decent portions of tasty perfectly cooked and marinated chicken in the curry sauce. As well as chunks of potato. This baby had some heat... Which is why Mamak is authentic - staying true to how it should be."
"There’s not much I can say about perfectly fried chicken… and Mamak does the best ayam goreng. Crispy, spicy, golden… I’d have this over KFC any day."
"I absolutely loved the ayam goreng. Every time I think about that crispy hot chicken skin crackling under my teeth, I think (in the words of Liz Lemon) - I want to go to there :D."
"My favourite of the meal was the Ayam Goreng with a tasty and crispy outer shell and tender moist meat inside — just the way it should be."
"Meanwhile, six chicken satays huddle together as waif-thin strips of meat beside a rubble of chunky raw red onion and cucumber. The taste is unbelievably authentic - slightly sweet with a perfume that's both lemongrass floral and charcoal smoky. The satay sauce is equally agile and attractive."
"Authentic satay sticks served with a to-die-for peanut sauce are a must."
"Chicken satay is also a must, I adore their chicken satay. Small skewers of perfection with delicious peanut sauce and very addictive."
"Both visually appealing and confusing to know how to eat it for the first time. I ended up breaking it down to small pieces and spooning a bit of ice cream on it. Coated in crystalised sugar it's a diabetics nightmare but so addictively yummy — I now know why it's so appealing to so many."
"The roti tisu is a witch’s hat on a plate, tall, spectacular and eye-catching. We break off pieces, slowly unravelling and dismantling the tower. Underneath that crisp melt-in-the-mouth roti is a layer of crunchy sugar."
