Champurrado

Champurrado is a Mexican hot beverage belonging to the family of drinks called atole, which is corn masa gruel that is sweetened with sugar and flavored with numerous ingredients such as chocolate in the case of champurrado. There are many versions of champurrado, so some people add water, milk, or both.


The final result is a thick, hot chocolate drink that can be additionally flavored with vanilla, cinnamon, or anise seed. The beverage is traditionally served in the morning as an accompaniment to breakfast.
