Blood and Sand is a Scotch-based cocktail that was first published in The Savoy Cocktail Book, written by Harry Craddock and published in 1930. The cocktail incorporates Scotch—preferably less smoky styles—cherry liqueur or cherry brandy (such as Cherry Heering), sweet vermouth, and freshly squeezed orange juice.
An equal amount of each ingredient is first poured into a shaker filled with ice. The combination is vigorously shaken and is then strained and poured into a chilled coupe glass. This cocktail is usually garnished with an orange twist, maraschino cherries, or a scorched orange wheel.
