Mabuyu is a popular candy in East Africa, particularly in the coastal region of Kenya, Tanzania, and Zanzibar, made from the seeds of the baobab tree. The seeds are extracted from the baobab fruit, which is a large, oval-shaped fruit with a hard outer shell.
They are boiled until they become soft and, in the next step, sun-dried until they become very hard. The dried seeds are then coated in a sugar syrup, often reddened with food coloring, and sometimes spiced up with things like chili powder or tamarind for a tangy twist.
