Saucijzenbroodjes (sausage rolls) is a Dutch dish consisting of meat that is wrapped in puff pastry. It is a popular snack that can be found at numerous Dutch fast food joints, street stands, bakeries, and train stations. Although the name suggests that the dish contains sausages, that is not the case–it is filled with ground beef that is spiced with nutmeg and black pepper.
"Excellent patisserie started in 1969 by Cees and Petra Holtkamp in a tiny, warm and lovely shop built in 1928. Preserving the traditions and maintaining the quality, including the signature savoury sausage rolls."
"I don’t have much of a sweet tooth so I selected a lovely sausage roll, made mostly with veal in Holland. Perfectly golden, crispy on top, moist inside with a delicious filling. The filling in Holland really is very good."
"The ones at Kwekkeboom are the real deal: the pastry is made with butter, not margarine, and the meat is high quality, usually veal."
