Reuther Bier

(Reuth beer)

Reuther Bier can only be produced in the municipality of Reuth bei Erbendorf in Bavaria. The beer is produced by the Schloß brewery, and it comes in four main styles: Lagerbier, Schloß-Pils, Weißbier, and Spezial.

Although these beers differ in their appearance, alcoholic strength, and flavor, they have to be made with Artesia mineral water, a spring which is owned by the brewery, and regionally grown hops and malt. They also must be brewed following the Bavarian Beer Purity Law that dates from 1516.

The official production of beer at the Schloßbrauerei started in 1742, though it is presumed that the brewing tradition in the region exited before. The first beer brewed at the premises was Reuther Lager.
