Malvasia di Bosa | Local Wine Appellation From Sardinia, Italy | TasteAtlas

Malvasia di Bosa

Malvasia di Bosa is an Italian wine region located in western Sardinia that produces white wines almost exclusively from Malvasia di Sardegna—which must constitute at least 95% of the blend. The wines are oxidized, meaning that they are aged in chestnut casks where they are allowed to develop flor—a film of local yeast.

Malvasia di Bosa comes in different styles, including dry, sparkling, and passito (wine made using partially dried grapes) versions. Dry wines, which come as both amabile (semi-sweet) or dolce (sweet) are intense, aromatic, and fruity, with aromas reminiscent of fennel, orange peel, and almonds.

Those labeled as Riserva have undergone a minimum aging period of two years, one of which has to be in wood. Malvasia di Bosa wines pair well with shellfish, appetizers that include prosciutto and ham, olives, or capers. They also work well with honey, almond-based desserts, and cheese.
