Gegić | Local Wine Variety From Pag, Croatia | TasteAtlas

Gegić

(Gegić bijeli, Debeljan, Gejić, Paška, Paškinja)

Gegić is a minor Croatian grape now mainly found on the island of Pag. It is believed that the grape originated somewhere in the Kvarner Gulf, and while Pag remains its stronghold, small plantings are also found on several neighboring islands.

The grape was mainly used in blends, but local producers now opt to use it as a varietal wine to display its unique character and quality. Gegić typically produces straw-colored white wines with aromas reminiscent of yellow fruit, white flowers, and hints of citrus and herbal notes.

The wines are usually medium-bodied, high in alcohol, and have bright acidity. They are best paired with local specialties from Pag, including seafood dishes, lamb, and cheese.
