Saussignac

Saussignac is a French appellation for dessert wines made from Muscadelle, Sauvignon, and Semillon grapes that are affected by noble rot. The appellation is located on the left bank of the Dordogne, in the five Bergerac communes (Gageac-et-Rouillac, Monestier, Razac de Saussignac, and Saussignac).


The wines are dark yellow and tend to turn golden with age. The aromas are reminiscent of white flowers and yellow fruit, particularly apricot and quince, along with some exotic and spicy notes that remind of vanilla, cinnamon, and mango. On the palate, the wines are fruity and intense, displaying a sweet combination of candied fruit and honey, along with vanilla-like and licorice notes.


The wines are full-bodied, but because of well-balanced acidity and sweetness, they remain fresh and avoid being cloying. These rich wines can be enjoyed as an aperitif, but they also pair well with desserts and blue cheese.
