Moscato di Trani | Local Wine Appellation From Province of Barletta-Andria-Trani, Italy | TasteAtlas

Moscato di Trani

Moscato di Trani is an Italian appellation for dessert wines made from dried Moscato Bianco, locally known as Moscato Reale and internationally as Muscat Blanc à Petits Grains. The wines come in two styles: Dolce Naturale, a classic dessert wine, and a fortified Liquoroso.

Both types have to be made with at least 85% of Moscato Bianco. The wines have a distinctive golden yellow color, which is streaked with amber reflections. The aroma is complex and intense, dominated by candied fruit, warming spices, honey, and tropical fruit.

On the palate, they are soft and round, with pleasant sweetness, well-balanced acidity, and subtle almond finish. These wines would work best with desserts, especially local pastries, but they can also be enjoyed on their own or served with pungent blue or aged cheese or pâtés.
