Johnnie Walker | Local Spirit From Kilmarnock, Scotland | TasteAtlas

Johnnie Walker

Johnnie Walker is the best-selling Scotch whisky in the world and is a blend of grain and malt whiskies from various distilleries. It was first produced in the 19th century by John Walker, a Scotsman from the town of Kilmarnock. Initially, he sold single malt whiskies but eventually decided to sell blended whiskies, which made it possible to have a more consistent product.

The Johnnie Walker has a wide range of blends, each identified by a different color. The Red Label is the most affordable and one you’ll find at most bars, as it’s intended for mixing. It is a combination of peat and lighter whiskies and has an easy and a bit spicy flavor.

The Black Label is made with 30-40 different whiskies, is aged for 12 years, and has notes of caramel, vanilla, and soft spices. The Double Black Label is peatier and has a more intense and deep flavor when compared to the Black Label.  Read more

The Green Label is sweet with hints of dried fruit and is made only with blended malts. Apart from these, there are a few other labels in the Johnnie Walker portfolio, with most having around 40% ABV. The Johnnie Walker whisky is instantly recognized thanks to its slanted label, square bottle, and Striding Man logo.

It is consumed neat or used for making cocktails. The brand is currently owned by Diageo, a multinational alcoholic beverage company.
