Café Savoyard

As the name suggests, this traditional coffee known for its unique serving style hails from the French Savoy. The drink is a simple combination of brewed coffee that is sweetened and traditionally fortified with eau de vie (fruit brandy), while orange or lemon slices can also be added. Café Savoyard is served in a grole—an unusual wooden pot that has several carved sprouts.

It is enjoyed communal-style and each guest drinks from their designated sprout. No cups or glasses are served. Café Savoyard is a warming drink that is mostly enjoyed as an après-ski specialty.
