Sulkovački šterc

Sulkovački šterc is a poor man’s dish originating from Croatia. This simple dish consists of only a few ingredients – potatoes, flour, salt, and bacon. In order to prepare it, the potatoes should be boiled and smashed. They are then transferred to a pan and combined with flour.

The bacon is fried in another pan, and it is then taken out. The mixture of potatoes and flour is transferred to the pan in which the bacon was fried. When the combination becomes crispy on the edges, it is flipped and fried a bit more. The potatoes are then served with fried bacon on the same plate.

In the past, šterc was made from leftover potatoes, and nowadays it can be served as a tasty accompaniment to stews and relishes, or it can be consumed on its own.
