Galatrona is Petrolo's "Grand Cru" Merlot, produced exclusively from the eponymous vineyard planted between the late 1980s and mid-1990s with low-vigor Bordeaux clones. The vineyard spans approximately 10 hectares, with nearly 50,000 vines trained in spurred cordon trellising.

The soil, rich in clay combined with schist, marl, and sandstone, contributes to the wine's notable structure, elegance, balance, and persistence. The result is an intense, elegant wine with great structure and complexity, harmoniously balancing acidity, fruit, and tannins.

About Petrolo

The winery's history dates back to the 18th century, with significant contributions from agronomist Giorgio Perrin in the 1830s, who celebrated the Sangiovese grape and the unique terroir of the region. In the 1940s, the Bazzocchi family acquired the estate, and under their stewardship, Petrolo has focused on producing high-quality wines that reflect the character of their territory.

Since the late 1980s, the winery has emphasized low yields and meticulous vineyard management to enhance quality. Petrolo's portfolio includes notable wines such as 'Galatrona,' a pure Merlot, and 'Bòggina,' crafted from Sangiovese, both of which have garnered international acclaim.

The estate is also recognized for its commitment to biodiversity and sustainable farming practices, contributing to the production of wines that authentically express the terroir of Val d’Arno di Sopra.
