The winery's history dates back to the 18th century, with significant contributions from agronomist Giorgio Perrin in the 1830s, who celebrated the Sangiovese grape and the unique terroir of the region. In the 1940s, the Bazzocchi family acquired the estate, and under their stewardship, Petrolo has focused on producing high-quality wines that reflect the character of their territory.
Since the late 1980s, the winery has emphasized low yields and meticulous vineyard management to enhance quality. Petrolo's portfolio includes notable wines such as 'Galatrona,' a pure Merlot, and 'Bòggina,' crafted from Sangiovese, both of which have garnered international acclaim.
