Oriel Sea Salt is the sea salt harvested from the bay of Port Oriel, County Louth, Ireland. Harvesting of sea salt in this region dates back centuries ago because it was a vital ingredient in preserving fish from deep gulf waters. The qualities of this salt are essentially due to the pure sea water, raw materials, the unusual deep sea currents and the process employed where it is untouched by air, earth or human until it emerges crystal white, unwashed and rich in minerals.
This ensures that Oriel Sea Salt is a perfect additive free 'virgin sea salt'. It has a fine, smooth structure that is almost like powder to the touch which allows it to penetrate and disperse in food more easily. It has a concentrated salty taste, not sharp or sour at all.
It is described as 'smooth' and having 'a true taste of the sea'. Since it is naturally crystal white, it does not need to be washed or rinsed and, therefore, has high levels of natural sea minerals such as magnesium, potassium and up to 65 trace minerals.
