Metropolitan

Metropolitan is an American cocktail made with a combination of brandy, sweet vermouth, simple sugar syrup, and Angostura bitters. In order to prepare it, all ingredients should be shaken with ice, then strained into a chilled cocktail glass.

If desired, it can be garnished with a lemon twist. The oldest recipe for this drink dates back to the year 1900, but nowadays there are other cocktails with the name Manhattan, and the most popular of those, invented in 1990 in New York City, is made with a combination of vodka, cranberry juice, lime juice, and triple sec.
