Vulture | Local Olive Oil From Province of Potenza, Italy | TasteAtlas

Vulture

Here in the region of ancient Lucania olives have been cultivated since the times of Magna Graecia, and although they don’t produce very high yields, the oil pressed from these olives has always been prized as a product of highest quality. Vulture extra virgin olive oil is made almost entirely from Ogliarola del Vulture, a typical cultivar of this area, and other olive varieties grown organically on the slopes of Monte Vulture, an ancient inactive volcano located in northwest Basilicata, on the border of Campania and Apulia.

The cultivation of olive groves in these hills is carried out in a traditional manner, and the trees are pruned by hand. Vulture olive oil is glossy and its color ranges from amber-yellow to green-yellow. Mild or strong, it has a fruity bouquet, and an intense and slightly bitter taste of ripe olives, with a light spicy note.
