Vespolina is a red Italian grape variety primarily grown in Piedmont, with some plantings in Lombardy. Because it is finicky to grow, it is not widely cultivated, but with the right approach, it produces aromatic and well-structured red wines.
The grape is best known as a blending partner often used with Nebbiolo, Croatina, and Uva Rara in Boca, Gattinara, and Ghemme appellations, but it is increasingly being used in varietal wines. Vespolina is believed to be an offspring of Nebbiolo and an unknown variety.
