Pesca di Leonforte | Local Peach From Province of Enna, Italy | TasteAtlas

Pesca di Leonforte

Grown within the Sicilian province of Enna, Pesca di Leonforte is a fresh peach of the Bianco di Leonforte and Giallone di Leonforte varieties. Leonforte peaches are cultivated by a special technique: during the ripening stage, the fruits are covered with vellum paper bags which protects them from toxic residues and allows them to slowly ripen and thus arrive on the market when other peach varieties are already out of season.

Firm-fleshed and particularly sweet, Leonforte peaches can be enjoyed fresh or used for preparing a wide variety of dishes, especially desserts, ice creams and liqueurs. Since 1982, there's an annual festival held every first Sunday of October aimed at promoting the fragrant Leonforte peaches and related culinary specialties.
