Muddlewell is an English cheese hailing from North Wootton, Somerset, where it's produced by Wootton Organic Dairy. This hard cheese is made from a combination of raw Jersey cow's milk and raw sheep's milk and it's usually eaten when it's between 4 and 8 weeks old.
Underneath its natural rind, the texture is crumbly and creamy. The aromas are intense, while the flavors are generally mild at 4 months, but they become deeper as it matures. When developing this cheese, the cheesemakers had an idea to get the crumbly and dry texture that's typical of
Millstone cheese and pair it with a creamy flavor that's typical of
Ringwell cheese.
