Moristel is a native Spanish red grape native to Huesca and Zaragoza but typically associated with Somontano in northeast Spain. It produces light wines with a lot of character. This late-ripening variety can be somewhat finicky to grow, and it tends to oxidize quickly, so it is not commonly cultivated.
Moristel produces intensely colored, light, and approachable wines, with medium acidity and tannins. The aroma is reminiscent of cherries and blackberries. The grape is often blended with Tempranillo, Parraleta, or Cabernet Sauvignon, which provide more body to the blend.
