Monte Carlo Cocktail

Monte Carlo is a classic cocktail that closely resembles Old Fashioned. It consists of rye whiskey, bitters, and Bénédictine—French liqueur with dominant herbal, citrusy, and spicy notes.  The cocktail is created by adding all the ingredients in a mixing glass filled with ice.

When chilled, the drink is strained into an old-fashioned glass, preferably over one large ice block, and it is then garnished with a lemon twist. It is believed that the recipe was first published in David Embury's The Fine Art of Mixing Drinks (1948).
