Lion's Tail is one of the classic Prohibition cocktails. It combines bourbon, lime juice, simple syrup, bitters, and allspice dram (rum-based liqueur flavored with allspice berries). The ingredients are shaken with ice and are then strained into a chilled glass.
This cocktail is usually served in coupe without garnishes, though lime zest is occasionally added. The first reference dates back to 1937 and The Café Royal Cocktail Book, but it probably appeared before that. Although the book was published in London, it is believed that Lion's Tail was an American creation, but the theory remains unconfirmed.
