Recommendations

"For a hearty bowl of ramen noodles in the Kyoto museum district (Okazaki-koen Park and Heian-jingu area), Karako is the obvious choice. Superb kotteri (thick soup) ramen, topped with some of the best chashu (roasted sliced pork) we’ve tasted anywhere."
"Karako is a must-go place to have a juicy flavor of Ramen. With kind staff, the restaurant will give you a tempting deal of Kotteri Ramen that has a thick soup topped with roasted sliced pork."
"The soup was nice, it had thick texture and a delicious flavour. You could see the pork bones boiling away in a large pot in the background, brewing the perfect soup as we ate. The noodles were also very well cooked - not too soft. This was the first ramen I have had where wakame seaweed was included as a topping in addition to the traditional nori seaweed. However, the flavour was great and it added a different texture to the ramen altogether."
"Karako is another favorite ramen restaurant in Kyoto. If you go for the food, not the ambience, you'll find the ramen is excellent – the soup is thick and rich and the chashū (pork slices) melts in your mouth. The kotteri (thick soup) ramen is highly recommended."
"Very very good. The soup is like no other. Surprisingly, and I find it amusing for me to say this, the soup is good because it is simple. By staying true to origin flavour, Karako soup texture is light (watery) and its taste lightweight too. By not having heavy taste element, you get to feel an excellent ramen soup, every single bit of it. Make no mistake, it is not tasteless either."
"The ramen at Karako, which is on a busy street a few blocks from the museum neighborhood, was about $7 and the best I’ve ever had. Get the kotteri."
"Its golden color suggests a rich soup. At first glance, I thought this is probably a heavy soup. However, despite its thick texture, the soup tastes surprisingly light. Roast pork has been cooked so thoroughly that it crumbles when I tried picking up with chopsticks, and the delicious taste permeates throughout."
