"The batter on my haddock was crisp and greaseless and had in the correct manner encased the fillet allowing it to steam, leaving firm chunks of fish. Excellent. Judging by favorable sounds from across the table the Plaice passed muster as well. The chips, too, were nicely cooked - slightly browned as oppose to the more common flabby white variety."
"Every fish is freshly caught on a daily basis before being cooked and served in the Marylebone fishery's famous homemade batter. Serving one of the largest slabs of cod in the city, Golden Hind fries all its fish in groundnut oil. When the oil is fresh, you'll have an absolute whale of a time."
"Our haddock was exceptional, with a light, wonderfully grease-free batter. Chips were chunky, less well done than the norm, but crisp and fresh-tasting (if not quite melt-in-the-mouth on the inside). Perfectly seasoned mushy peas were a treat, and provided more than just a splash of colour on the plate."
"It is remarkably hard to find even competent fish and chips in London, and the Golden Hind certainly delivers in this regard."
"When it comes to fish and chips in London, locals and in-the-know tourists can agree that Golden Hind does it best."
"It may surprise you, but London isn’t well known for its fish and chips – the famously British dish is far more prevalent in the North of England. But this charming, family-owned establishment in Marylebone serves genuinely excellent fish and chips for not very much money (well, not very much money for London) in refreshingly unpretentious surroundings."
"Marginally pricier than your usual 'chippie' — possibly owing to its Marylebone setting — The Golden Hind has been in business for more than 100 years, albeit with different owners, and the quality of the fish and chips remains worth going out of your way for."
"Bringing it back to the more traditional route, this is a no-frills option for anyone who is serious about quality and big portions. It’s been here for decades and you’ll find a lot of well-heeled regulars popping in to get their fix on Fridays."
"This friendly and casual Marylebone institution serves some of the best fish & chips going. Lunchtime is, of course, especially busy, but the fact that it's bustling the rest of the time points to this being one of London's best."
