Golden Dawn is a vintage cocktail based on gin and apricot brandy. It also includes equal amounts of orange juice, Calvados (apple brandy), and a dash of grenadine. Gin, apricot brandy, orange juice, and apple brandy are shaken with ice, and the mix is strained to a chilled cocktail glass.
A dash of grenadine can be added as a first or the last ingredient. It is usually garnished with an orange slice and a cherry. Golden Dawn was invented in 1930 by Tom Buttery, a bartender at the Berkley Hotel in London. The cocktail won the international competition, and it was first printed in the Café Royal Cocktail Book published in 1937.
