Gamja Jorim | Traditional Potato Dish From South Korea, East Asia | TasteAtlas

Braised Potatoes (Gamja jorim)

(Braised Potatoes, 감자조림)

Gamja jorim is a traditional South Korean dish of braised potatoes. Although there are many variations, the dish is usually made with a combination of potatoes, soy sauce, garlic, vegetable oil, sesame oil, sugar, black pepper, and hot peppers.

The potatoes are sliced or cubed and stir-fried in vegetable oil for a few minutes over medium heat. The rest of the ingredients (except the hot peppers) are added to the pan and everything is simmered for a few minutes. The hot peppers are added to the pan and the dish is simmered until the potatoes are fully cooked.

Before serving, gamja jorim is often garnished with roasted sesame seeds and it's enjoyed as a side dish.
