Douro DOC (Denominação de Origem Controlada) is one of Portugal's most prestigious wine regions, located in the Douro Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Established in 1756, it is among the oldest demarcated wine regions in the world.
The Douro DOC is renowned for its diverse wine styles, including Port wine, dry red and white table wines, and increasingly popular rosé wines. Indigenous grape varieties dominate production, with reds like Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz (Tempranillo), and whites like Rabigato, Viosinho, and Gouveio.
Historically celebrated for its fortified Ports, Douro DOC has gained international acclaim for its dry red and white wines, which are known for their richness, complexity, and balance. The reds are full-bodied with dark fruit and spice notes, while the whites are crisp and aromatic with citrus and minerality.
