Douro DOC

Douro DOC (Denominação de Origem Controlada) is one of Portugal's most prestigious wine regions, located in the Douro Valley, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Established in 1756, it is among the oldest demarcated wine regions in the world.

The Douro DOC is renowned for its diverse wine styles, including Port wine, dry red and white table wines, and increasingly popular rosé wines. Indigenous grape varieties dominate production, with reds like Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca, Tinta Roriz (Tempranillo), and whites like Rabigato, Viosinho, and Gouveio.

The region’s terroir is characterized by steep, terraced vineyards, schistous soils, and a Mediterranean climate with hot summers and cold winters, creating ideal conditions for grape cultivation. Douro is divided into three subzones: Baixo Corgo, producing lighter wines; Cima Corgo, known for high-quality Ports and table wines; and Douro Superior, producing concentrated and powerful wines.  Read more

Historically celebrated for its fortified Ports, Douro DOC has gained international acclaim for its dry red and white wines, which are known for their richness, complexity, and balance. The reds are full-bodied with dark fruit and spice notes, while the whites are crisp and aromatic with citrus and minerality.

Douro DOC symbolizes Portugal's winemaking excellence, blending centuries of tradition with modern acclaim.
