Dischi Volanti | Local Pasta Variety From Italy, Western Europe | TasteAtlas

Dischi volanti

(Messicani, Bonetti)

Dischi volanti is a traditional pasta variety originating from Italy. This small and circular pasta type has a lip that's ideal for trapping sauces. The name means flying saucers and the pasta was designed not long after the term was coined in 1947 in the United States, following Kenneth Arnold's sighting.

Once boiled in salted water, dischi volanti are often paired with chunky sauces, artichokes, ricotta and tomato, or peas and parmesan.
