Deauville

Deauville is one of the classic cocktails. It combines brandy, Calvados, Cointreau, and lemon juice. The ingredients are shaken with ice, and the combination is strained into a coupe or martini glass. This cocktail is typically not garnished.

The first written mention of Deauville is featured in Harry Craddock's 1930 The Savoy Cocktail Book, but it is assumed that Deauville probably originated before Prohibition. It was most likely named after Deauville, a seaside resort in Normandy, which is the birthplace of Calvados.
