Colline Teatine | Local Olive Oil From Province of Chieti, Italy | TasteAtlas

Colline Teatine

The extra virgin olive oil Colline Teatine is sometimes called also Frentano or Vastese, after the towns of Castel Frentano and Vasto, located in the province of Chieti in southern Abruzzo, where this oil is traditionally produced. The production of the oil in the province of Chieti goes back to the 2nd century A.D. and it has always been the main resource of income for the local population.

This extra virgin olive oil is made predominantly by olives of the Gentile di Chieti variety, picked in the period between late October and the end of December. It has a yellowish color with a green hue, and a fruity scent varying from gentle to strong.

The taste of Colline Teatine has soft but still quite pronounced bitter notes. Colline Teatine olive oil is typically matched with robust legumes, boiled vegetables or grilled fish.
