Chocotejas are a popular Peruvian dessert or treat that combines the textures and flavors of rich chocolate with a filling made of dulce de leche (a sweet, caramel-like milk-based treat) and various other fillings such as nuts, fruits, or coconut.
The treat is a kind of chocolate-covered candy, similar in concept to a filled chocolate bonbon. The origin of chocotejas is associated with the city of Ica in southern Peru, where they are particularly renowned, though they can be found and enjoyed all over the country.
