Carta Blanca (Superior) is a smooth white rum produced by the Bacardi Company. It was the first type of rum produced by the Bacardi, and it became a prototype and an example for all good-quality white rums. The subtle character of this rum is achieved by double charcoal filtration—resulting in a clear, light-bodied rum with aromas reminiscent of vanilla and almonds.
Bacardi was founded by a Spanish native, Facundo Bacardí Masso, who immigrated to Cuba in the early 1830s. He founded the company in 1862 and was the first to produce refined and sophisticated rum styles using excellent base ingredients, oak-aging, and charcoal filtration.
The family was exiled, but they were able to move their headquarters to the Bahamas, and establish additional plants in Puerto Rico and Mexico. They were also able to save their unique yeast strain—making it impossible for anyone to copy the exact flavor of Bacardi rum.
