Buttafuoco

(Buttafuoco Oltrepò Pavese)

Buttafuoco is one of the subregions in the large Oltrepò Pavese DOC appellation. Located in the province of Pavia in Lombardy, the region produces red wines made with a blend of Barbera, Croatina, Uva Rara, and/or Vespolina. The vineyards are located on the hills overlooking the Po plain, and most have excellent sun exposure.

Buttafuoco wines come as still dry wines (Rosso tranquillo) and as sparkling styles (Rosso frizzante). The resulting wines are fruity and aromatic with a ruby red color, well-integrated tannins, and good acidity. The aroma is reminiscent of red berries, fruit jams, and violets, with some hints of wood and spices.

These wines are an ideal pairing with local specialties. They are best served with meat-based main courses, charcuterie, and pasta in tomato sauce. Buttafuoco Storico is a label reserved for prime examples of Buttafuoco, which includes quality grade and the year of the vintage.
