Bi luo chun

(Biluochun, Bì luó chūn, 碧螺春)

Biluochun is one of the most popular Chinese green teas. It originates from Jiangsu Province, while the best and the most expensive versions come from the tea plantations located around Taihu Lake. The leaves are green, thin, and curly, covered in a layer of downy hairs.

When brewed, the tea liquor is clear and pale green. The flavor is vegetal, fruity, refreshing, and subtly sweet, while the aroma is floral. Biluochun is harvested in the early spring. It is a type of pan-fried tea, and the entire production is mostly manual.

Biluochun-style teas are cultivated and produced in other Chinese regions but are usually of lower quality. Biluochun translates as green snail spring. It earned its name because of the unique, snail-meat shape of the finished leaf.
