Begleri Ikaria | Local Wine Variety From Icaria, Greece | TasteAtlas

Begleri Ikaria

(Ικαρία)

Begleri is a white grape that is only found on the Greek island of Ikaria. It is believed that it is somehow connected to Begler—an ancient Syrian grape variety. The wines produced from Begleri tend to be aromatic, lively, bright, and fresh.

They have a complex character, well-balanced acidity, and fruit aromas reminiscent of citrus and tropical fruit. These wines are best served well-chilled, and they pair best with local and Mediterranean dishes, seafood, fresh cheese, poultry, appetizers, salads, and fruit.
