Bakalca

Bakalca is a traditional dish originating from Idrija. This rich stew is usually prepared with a combination of mutton (and sometimes beef), onions, carrots, white wine, tomatoes, olive oil, bay leaves, thyme, salt, and pepper. The ingredients are simmered in a pot until the meat and the vegetables become tender.


This hearty stew is traditionally served with pasta dumplings known as Idrijski žlikrofi, which is also a local specialty.
