Volnay | Local Wine Appellation From Volnay, France | TasteAtlas

Volnay

Volnay is a French appellation located in Côte de Beaune sub-region of Burgundy that produces some of the best expressions of Pinot Noir. The appellation is located in the Côte-d’Or region, more precisely in the communes de Meursault and Volnay.

These rich wines, which are often described as feminine, are incredibly aromatic but tend to be less powerful than the varieties from the neighboring Pommard. They will typically have distinctive cherry notes that are complemented by floral aromas of roses and violets.

Although they can be enjoyed relatively young, with age, they become more concentrated and tend to develop notes of preserved fruit, spices, and game. Volnay wines pair exceptionally well with more elaborate poultry dishes, feathered game, and flavourful cheese varieties.
